Changing therapists is a very healthy practice to follow. Finding the right therapist for you can take some time, so do not be discouraged. On the side of things, changing your therapist after years of work together because you outgrew them is also very common.

This is how to change your therapist on BetterHelp for online therapy users.

How To Change Therapist On BetterHelp

If you haven’t signed up for BetterHelp yet, you can see about requesting a therapist you know to start. To change therapists on BetterHelp, you can follow these steps.

1. Log into your BetterHelp account

Visit the BetterHelp website and log in using your username and password. If you are using the BetterHelp app, launch it and log in.

Look for an icon or link that represents your account settings. It is usually located in the top right corner of the website or the app’s menu options. Click on it to access your account settings.

3. Find the "My Therapist" section

Once in your account settings, search for the “My Therapist” or “My Counselor” section. This is where you can manage your therapist preferences.

4. Request a new therapist

Within the “My Therapist” section, you should see an option to request a new therapist. Click on it, and you will be prompted to explain the change. You can briefly describe your reasons, such as a lack of connection, mismatched therapy style, or other relevant factors.

5. Confirm your request

After submitting your request, you may receive a confirmation message or be directed to a page acknowledging your request. BetterHelp will then process your request and assign you a new therapist based on your preferences.

6. Wait for a new therapist assignment

The process of assigning a new therapist may take some time, as BetterHelp needs to consider your preferences and match you with an available therapist. You may receive an email notification once a new therapist has been assigned.

7. Begin therapy with your new therapist

Once you receive confirmation of a new therapist assignment, you can start scheduling sessions and communicate with them through BetterHelp’s platform. Take time to introduce yourself, explain your goals, and connect with your new therapist.

Remember, if you have any concerns or difficulties with the process, you can always contact BetterHelp’s customer support for assistance at support@betterhelp.com.

FAQ

The transition from one therapist to another does not need to be complicated. As we like to say, breaking up with your therapist is as normal as breaking up with a partner. Let your therapist know that its time for you to move on, ask them for a reference to another therapist, and start contacting new therapists.

When you are matched on BetterHelp, that therapist will be the person you work with until you decide to change them or cancel your subscription.

You will not be charged if you cancel your BetterHelp therapy session early than 24hrs before the session. If you cancel within the 24hr window, they can charge you.

To change your therapist on Talkspace, you will want to go through the proper sequence, starting with the platform’s settings. Also, you can reach out to the support team, support@talkspace.com, for help.
